Horizon

Just as it should be. No assembly required. What happens, will happen here.

Gazing out at the horizon stirs something in us. Its tractor beam like qualities lure us to its ever-changing appearance. If only we could get there. But why? What is so enticing about this harmonious union of land, water and sky?

This visible destination makes us believe there’s more. It evokes a sense of possibility. A sense of rightness. A sense of hope. It begs us to ask the question, what’s out there? But I think the better question is, what’s in here?

The only difference between us and the horizon is our labeling. These divisive words separate us, not just from nature, but from ourselves. The truth of the horizon is found in realizing that we are already there. We are standing at the horizon of yesterday, of last month, of twenty years past. It may look different depending on circumstances, but it’s always there.

This alluring desire we feel when looking to the horizon is telling us something. It’s telling us that this divine union exists within each one of us. It’s telling us that we are the world.  It’s telling us that we already know the answers. It’s telling us that change is the only way. It’s telling us that graceful receptivity to change is beauty, it’s strength. It’s telling us to be still and listen.  It’s telling us to trust ourselves. It’s telling us to go home.

Nature reminds, it does not teach. It reminds us that perfection is a mirage. It reminds us that land, sky, sea and self are derived from the same source. It reminds us that the greatest expedition doesn’t involve going anywhere. It reminds us that the destination is not a place, it’s an understanding. It reminds us that we’ll get to where we want to be by fully being wherever we already are.
